The public attitude towards higher education has changed in Armenia: Robert Sukiasyan

There will be a significant increase in the number of graduates from 2019

In Armenia, the degree of enrollment in higher education is above the average - about 53%. Head of the Department of the Higher and Postgraduate Education of the RA Robert Sukiasyan adds that according to the policy developed by the Ministry, this index should be increased. “Our task is to increase the coverage of universities, regardless the social status of the applicant. In developed countries, the enrollment ratio in higher education is 60%, and they tend to reach 80%,” the head of the department notes.

Robert Sukiasyan believes that in Armenia, the public attitude to education, especially to higher education, has changed in a positive way.

As for a considerable number of vacancies in state universities, the department head explains this solely by the number of graduates. “This year we have about 20 thousand graduates across the country, and next year their number will decrease by another 50%,” Robert Sukiasyan says. Nevertheless, the specialist assures that there will be a significant increase in the number of graduates from 2019. The details are in the program “Questioning the Powerholder”.
